Hello and Happy New Year from the Site Team for The New Travelodge in Wimbledon

General update since our last letter

Works continue to progress on site with the formation of pile caps, ground beams, and associated drainage works within the building footprint, once these works are complete, we will be moving forwards with the installation of concrete columns and shear walls to form the superstructure support for the framework upper levels. These works are planned to commence in the coming days and then continue into late spring. You will probably have noticed road works in Hartfield Road recently which was the installation of our temporary electric connection to serve the site, this means the generator we have been using for site power can now go, so will therefore be quieter and cleaner. We can advise that any Zipp cars previously using Graham Road have now been relocated to the Morrison’s carpark opposite Graham Road.

COVID -19 Mitigation Measures

Given the current COVID-19 situation we have further tightened our procedures to minimise the risk of infection transfer by:

  • limiting the amount of people coming to site and holding all client and supply chain meetings over Teams/Zoom
  • Increasing antibacterial cleaning regimes including the use of fogging machine within welfare areas.
  • Re inducting and holding Toolbox talks for COVID-19 specific requirements to all site personnel.

Upcoming Works of Note

  •  The Installation of initial infrastructure for the utility services.

The Installation of the Tower Crane of which we have put the following plans in place:

  • The mobile crane used to erect the tower crane will arrive at site between 05:00am and 05:30am on the 26th Jan. This is as required by the metropolitan police as this is classed as an abnormal load and as such must adhere to specific rules. The crane will pull up on Hartfield Road before reversing straight into site, once on site the engine will be switched off until 8am and as all other site workers, the crane erection team will comply with rules not to start noisy operations before this hour.
  • The first delivery will not be until 9am in order to give sufficient time to set the mobile crane up between 8am and 9am.
  • Deliveries will pull up into the Bus Lane on Hartfield Road where they will be unloaded. Each lorry is expected to take approximately 30 minutes with deliveries being coordinated so we do not have more than one of our lorries on Hartfield road at any given time.
  • The footpath on Hartfield road between Graham Road and Beulah Road will be closed on the 26th and 27th Jan 2021 as we will be lifting over the footpath into site. We have arranged for the required signage and diversion routes to be installed in coordination with Merton Highways and our traffic management company.
